Whether it’s your first massage or just first time at Nature’s Touch, there should be certain expectation as you head into your
appointment. Your massage should be relaxing, enjoyable, and comfortable. However, we understand it can be a little awkward for some. To ease your mind and make the experience as seamless as possible, here’s everything you need to know before you head into your appointment:
Before Your Appointment
Prior to your appointment, you should discuss your personal goals for the session and talk to your therapist about any health concerns or physical injuries you may have. An objective for the session should be established so your therapist knows exactly how to serve you. Maybe you’re looking for a deep tissue massage, lymphatic drainage, have pain in your neck that needs worked through, or just looking for a purely relaxing session, make it yours! We will ask you to disclose some of your health history so we know if there are any causes for concerns or special areas of the body we should pay extra attention to or avoid.
Massage therapy has a detoxifying effect on the body. Movement and kneading of the muscles flushes out stagnant toxins while pushing fresh oxygen into those areas. It’s critical your body has the tools it needs to allow this detoxification to take place and to keep those muscle supple and pliable. In the days before your massage, drink plenty of water to hydrate your body. You may want to consider avoiding eating heavy meals before your appointment as well to avoid indigestion or discomfort.
Lastly… just relax! Feel free to use the restroom when you arrive. Come a few extra minutes in order to take your time and get comfortable.
During the Massage
Our rooms are cozy, dark, and warm. As you enter Nature’s Touch, you’re greeted by soft music and different essential oil blends to stimulate your senses and take you to an oasis of relaxation.
Once in the room, you may disrobe down to what you are comfortable with. A sheet will be draped over you at all times. Only the shoulders, upper back and arms, low back and legs are ever exposed. If you feel uncomfortable at any point, speak up! Open communication with your therapist is encouraged. What’s comfortable for someone else may not be comfortable for you.
When You’re All Done
When your massage has come to an end, your therapist will leave you to rest for several moments. For any yogis out there, you may be familiar with the end of the practice ritual called “savasana.” It’s a pose used to calm the nervous system after a practice. The same idea applies to massage. Your muscles and lymphatic system have just been manipulated and stimulated. To truly feel the benefits of your treatment, a few moments of stillness can help your mind reconnect to the present and allow your body to ease out of the hard (yet relaxing!) work it just did.
After you’ve dressed and left your treatment room, your therapist will talk to you about your experience. Depending on your condition, a treatment plan may be recommended to continue your healing and at this time you may schedule your next appointment. In the hours and even a day or two following your massage, you will feel it’s wonderful affects. Your body will feel lose, relaxed, and depending on what type of treatment you had, even a little sore. During this time, continue to drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.
